Pochampally Ikat Mercerized Cotton Saree
Pochampally Ikat Mercerized Cotton Saree
-
Pochampally Ikat refers to a style of resist-dyeing the yarns before weaving; popular in Bhoodan Pochampally, Telangana. Geometric patterns are hallmarks.
-
Mercerized cotton means the cotton yarn has been treated (usually with caustic soda, then neutralised) to increase luster, strength, dye uptake, reduce shrinkage. So the fabric gets a bit of sheen, is more vibrant in colour and more durable.
-
Combined, these sarees offer the handloom heritage & pattern of Ikat + the added sheen & durability of mercerization. Great for daily wear, semi-formal, even festivals depending on design.
