Pochampally Double Ikat Cotton Saree
Pochampally Double Ikat Cotton Saree With Blouse
-
Origin: Pochampally (Bhoodan Pochampally), Telangana. The saree style is GI-protected
-
Weave / Technique: “Double Ikat” means both the warp (lengthwise threads) and the weft (crosswise) are resist-dyed (i.e. tied & dyed) before weaving, so designs align on both axes. This is more complex & time-intensive than single or warp/weft ikat.
-
Fabric: Cotton (or cotton blends, or silk variants), giving it breathability and comfort. Cotton versions tend to be more casual/everyday or semi-festive compared to pure silk.
-
Designs / Patterns: Geometric motifs are common (diamonds, squares, etc.), often with slightly diffused edges (a trait of ikat). There are traditional patterns (e.g. “Chowkra design”)
